Camera Angles/ Shots | · Medium long shot: showing their whole body. This is creepy because it seems to me that there is a party in the Hotel. I can tell this because Grady seems to dress in an organised fashion, whereas Jack is dressed ordinary. This leads to tension because this tells us that Jack is imagining and hallucinating. This is terrifying because this shows that Jack is mentally ill which is why he later becomes more aggressive and threatening. · Medium shot: In this shot Grady is cleaning Jacks clothes which shows a sense of mystery · Zoom in: to Grady’s face and then Jacks, showing facial expressions · Close up: to both faces · Tracking shot: Wendy walking back and forth, tension arising again as she seems worried and agitated |
Sound | · Dialogue · Peaceful music in the background: eerie and disturbing as Jack is talking to a ghost · Hearing the wind howling · Sinister music: eerie and creepy |
Editing | · Constant Cut: to Jack and Grady, showing facial expression and different emotions · Cut: to Wendy in the bedroom |
Mise En Scene | · Shower room: adding tension because it is small leading to the feeling of claustrophobia · Red and white patterns around the toilet, suggesting murder and blood · Mirrors around the toilet: increase tension because Grady’s back is not reflected on the mirror suggesting that he is a ghost and that Jack is imaging stuff · Bedroom: Wendy seems to be unstable as she is crying and holding a cigarette in one hand, also suggesting that she is trying to reduce her stress |
